TWO COUNTRIES, TWO LADIES, TWO STORIES
(Edited by Anne Terri)
One country is the USA: The United States of America. Their religion is generally Christian, but there is a religious freedom for everyone. (Theoretically)
The lady is (was) called Teresa...Teresa Lewis. 41 years old.
The other country is Iran. Their religion is Islam. (In Iran, you had better be that)
The ladies' name is Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani. 43 years old.
Teresa was executed in the state of Virginia for commanding the murder of her husband and brother-in- law. Teresa is retarded; she has an IQ of 72. (Less than 70 IQ means no death penalty can be applied.
Now I will tell you about Sakineh from Iran:
Some days ago, I signed a petition asking them to stop the sentence of death by lapidation of Sakineh, the lady from Iran, for committing Adultery. (lapidation means to throw stones)
I read that she would not be lapidated, and I was happy that the Iranian authorities had understood the pressure of the world to stop this barbaric sentence. Now I'm reading that she will be not lapidated, but hanged, not for being an adulterer, but for helping to kill her husband. What? Did she kill her husband? Was she an accomplice? Why did not the press say this? I must do some research about this.
The other two that did physically commit the murder were judged guilty, and their penalty was a life sentence. She speaks Azeri and not Persian, which means she was not even able to understand the Sentence.
When Sakineh was first condemned for adultery, and she was whipped with 100 lashes for adultery supposedly after her husband's death (?)
Later she was tried again and, under torture, she confessed to adultery before her husband's death and for this she would be lapidated, after being buried to the waist and stones thrown at her until she is dead.
The Iran leaders ask: Why is all the world is against us for applying the death penalty, and not much is said against the USA for doing the same thing?
Why?
I would like to ask this to the Virginian judges who also did this.
Why?
As you see, the destiny of two ladies, living thousands of miles far way from each other, is united by the political problems that the politicians of two big countries are not able to solve.
Sakineh's destiny has been linked with Teresa's destiny.
Two ladies, two countries, two stories.
AMEN''
