Letter From Missionary Roni To Anne Terri
January 31, 2010
Dear Terri,
I was so delighted to receive your card and note during the Christmas holidays. I apologize for the delay in my response. I really do not know much about the life you are living in Europe and your involvement in mission work. I would love to hear about your faith journey.
I am sure your Mom is so happy to have you home for a little while. Your Mom has always held a very special place in my heart and in my development as an adult. Majorette's was a positive recreation for me amongst some very difficult years and challenging family relationships. Mrs. Sallye did so much to build me up at a critical time in my life. Her time and her interest in me has gone far to help mold me into the person I have become. There have been many bible studies and small group discussions when the name ''Mrs. Sallye'' has been brought up very fondly. One often never realizes the impact they can have on another person's life.
I have been very blessed in my life. In the last six years, I have had the opportunity to be involved in mission work in the Dominican Republic. The first several years we built a church and community building in the Batey's This is where the Haitian refugees that work in the sugar cane fields, live. The people have so little and need so much. I have seen first hand the improvements in the conditions in these villages. In January 2007, we took on the huge responsibility to build a school in the city of Barahona. This area is only about 40 miles from the Haitian border. The project has gone very well, and little by little, year by year, we are constructing a wonderful place for the children to learn and grow.
We have also extended our ministry to help in the medical clinics and in the distribution of rice and beans. My joy of being part of these mission teams has been even a greater blessing in that both of my children and my husband have gone on many of the trips with me. It does my heart good to see my children encompass at least some of the same desire to extend themselves to others.
I can tell by your little note that you understand the importance and responsibility we has as Christians to help those in need. We just returned from our most recent trip to the DR two weeks ago and actually today we shared our journey with our church congregation. Everything from a power point with a lot of pictures, to stories and testimonies and most importantly scripture that reminds us of God's love for us and the message for us to love one another.
Sincerely,
Roni
